Report: Third of Chicago Police Shootings Started With Foot Pursuits

LONG BEACH – Three separate shootings Friday afternoon within three miles of each other have left one person dead and at least two others hospitalized. All three shootings occurred in the North Long Beach area. The fatal shooting occurred in the 6500 block of Gardenia Avenue in Long Beach. According to LBPD radio traffic, the victim was gunned downed in an alley near his home. The suspect fled in a white vehicle. A second shooting occurred in the 5800 block of Elm Avenue also in Long Beach. A car window was shot out and at least one victim was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition. These two shootings are being investigated by Long Beach Police. The third shooting occurred in Bellflower near the boarder with Long Beach. According to an unconfirmed report of a witness (off camera), a man was shot multiple times in the stomach in the intersection of Downey Avenue and Artesia Blvd. LA County Fire responded and transported the victim to a local hospital. It unknown if the three shooting are related. The third shooting is being investigated by LASO Lakewood station.
There were two additional shootings in Long Beach on Friday afternoon. A shooting in the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue sent one victim to the hospital with unknown injuries. LBPD radio traffic indicated that the suspect fled the scene on foot. A bicyclist was shot as he was riding his bike in the 100 block of W. 15th Street near Pine Avenue. This victim was also transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. As of 6:00 PM a total of four shooting have occurred within the city limits of Long Beach on the Fourth of July. The fifth shooting occurred just outside the Long Beach city limit
