I’ll never give up. This is my passion.Tran’s journey started at 18 as a San Antonio Police Explorer.The Explorer program is a pilot program for youths who want to be officers.Being a police Explorer opened many doors for me, said Tran.On his first try, Tran was accepted to the San Antonio Police Academy.We followed him through the seventh month journey.Tran and other cadets endured thirty plus weeks of intense academic and physical training.We let them know that yes, we are giving them ten pounds of information in pretty much a two pound bag, said instructor Officer Rene Salas.Tran’s class is one of the largest to come through the academy since the early 2000’s.We started 54 with this class and now it’s down to under 40, said Captain James Flavin.Today, Tran was one of 39 cadets who became San Antonio’s newest police officers.Now I can start my journey to be a San Antonio police officer, said Tran after graduation.Tran’s first official day on the streets is Saturday night.
